We’re about to tackle something considered taboo err…intimate, but very interesting. I, personally, don’t think it should be taboo. So ladies, get comfortable because we’re going to touch on your reproductive health here.
I’m going to jump right at it and tell you about a new “toy” I’ve been playing around with. Okay, if you want to be a little serious about it, it’s a Kegel trainer that allows you to work the pelvic floor muscles without having to worry about whether or not you are contracting the right set of muscles because hello, unlike say, a bicep curl, no coach or doctor can actually show you how to do it! The KGoal by Minna Life is a device you can sync with your smart phone through the KGoal application so you can schedule and work on your Kegels without getting bored or fussing over whether you’re doing it right.
But first, what the heck are Kegels? It’s funny because half of the people I’ve asked know about it and half have never even heard of it. So if you’re part of the latter, you can learn more about it here.
One of the most important functions of your pelvic floor muscles is to hold your reproductive organs in place. Another (more apparent) reason to train them is to be able to hold your pee when you really, really need to–and only when you really, really need to! We all know holding your pee isn’t a good thing! But with Manila traffic getting worse by the day, you know how handy a strong pelvic floor can be! Others include better orgasms *wink wink* and if you’re pregnant, they help you get through labor like a real boss.
One of the things I learned during Yoga Teacher Training was helping pregnant women visualize an elevator that moves up and down in order to perform pelvic floor exercises . I’ve tried this with a couple of clients (both expecting and not) and one common thing I noticed was how they couldn’t tell whether or not they’re contracting the right muscles. I, eventually, also found out that my “relaxed” state wasn’t really relaxed. My KGoal helped me discover that.
There have been pseudo-medical pelvic toning devices available in the past and are probably still out in the market too. (If you haven’t seen them, Google “pelvic toning devices”) What sets the KGoal apart is how it makes the idea of training regularly more swallowable for most women. When I first saw the KGoal, I immediately wanted one because it looked like something you’d pick up out of curiosity off a shelf at a gift shop.
What makes it cooler is that you can sync it to your Smart Phone to keep track of your workouts. The app is free for download for both iOs and Android phones and comes in a clean, user-friendly (and girly) interface.
And if the idea of “working out” scares you, don’t worry. It’s not as tough as any Crossfit WOD. In fact, it’s so much fun to do. There are three simple, yet challenging games to choose from. The device vibrates (yeah, ladies!) in response to the pressure you put on the soft deflatable part when you squeeze. It’s a way to tell whether you’re doing it right or not. Each of your workouts are scored so you can track your progress each time.
The KGoal is handy and comes with a USB cable so you can easily charge it just like your mobile device.
Sold on getting one yet? A hip e-commerce store called Ilya carries the KGoal and will ship it directly to your doorstep. What’s great about them is that they celebrate sexual health without being lewd, creepy or gross. I mean, how cute is this?
Not to mention, every product they carry has been researched on (don’t ask me if the team has tested them, though!) and carefully curated to give you the best in terms of quality and value. Again, overall cuteness rating shooting past the roof too.
Pretty sure this has piqued your curiosity. Head on over to their website and take your pick! Follow them on Instagram @shop.ilya to keep news about them coming *coughs* your way. 😉
Note: If you’re pregnant and thinking of getting yourself a pelvic toning device, please consult with your Ob-Gyn before doing so. 😉
