Lately, the only type of studios I frequent are boutique fitness studios and perhaps, photography studios. It has been years since I stepped into an actual studio with a set for an upcoming TVC. A brief background on myself, I used to be an advertising executive in one of the top global ad agencies. Last week, a team from the same agency invited me to a sneak peek of the set of Cherifer Premium’s new TVC featuring journalist, Atom Araullo.
I was elated. Some days I miss the craziness that goes with working in the field of advertising. Also to work with an agency I was more than familiar with, one I can say is family to me, makes it much more exciting.
I went to the set with no idea what was going to happen. I didn’t even bother to ask, after we were told to come in activewear and to “get ready for the challenges that were prepared for us”. Luckily, friends Rovilson Fernandez and Vince Velasco were also there.
Another friend, Bea Fabregas was hosting the event giving me that sense of relief. At least I know I’m not going to be alone.
Entering the studio, we were met with a living room set, a pantry set and (are you ready?) an actual obstacle course. Three to be exact. It was like American Ninja Warrior scaled down.
What I loved about it was the design. The first thing that caught my eye were the “lily pads”. If you watch American Ninja Warrior, this is usually first on the course. They’re these slanted surfaces you’d have to step on quickly, else you fall. On the set, they were designed like slanted office desks complete with desktop computers and yes, a keyboard.
The other two were monkey bars that led to a giant clock and a steep ramp (about 20 feet) that led up to another desk at the very top.
Of course, Vince and Rov couldn’t help but play on the set while Bea and I (the girl who hates doing high-risk physical things) just watched and cheered them on. I promised the guys I’ll visit an obstacle course real soon and accustom myself to challenges such as this so I could take on their dares next time and not feel like such a wuss. :p
So, what was the whole idea behind doing a creatively designed obstacle course/set such as this? I got to chat a bit with a former officemate who handles the brand. Cherifer has grown to become a household name known for boosting growth and height especially among children. What very few understand about it though, is that Cherifer Premium (made for adults) does not promise to make you grow taller- and if it did, would you buy that? I mean I’m in my late twenties, give me a break. It’s actually a multivitamin that gives you energy to support the demands of your most active days. And by active, I’m not referring to workouts or runs, I’m referring to the stresses of our jobs, getting through traffic. It’s important to have enough energy to do the things that actually matter, such as spending time with loved ones and chasing after your passions.
Atom is a perfect fit for the brand. He lives such a busy life, always on-the-go and constantly working to balance things out. The biggest revelation, to me, was that even though he knew he had a harness ready to help him “fly” through the set, he has gone through all of the obstacles without it during rehearsal. The actual TVC was to be shot the next day after our preview and I can’t wait to see the final output.
