When I started my fitness journey back when I was only a teenager, all I wanted was to lose weight. I would step on a scale almost every day to see if I lost or gained a pound or two. Years later, I’ve become wiser and much less obsessed with the scale. It was like finally being able to free myself from what kept me from being contented with my body and from focusing on what really mattered: my performance.
Whatever reason you might have behind starting or sticking to a healthy and fit lifestyle, it is important to set goals. Maintaining a healthy weight could be one but for those who enjoy the challenge, pushing it a little further everyday develops a strong and positive mindset.
And speaking of goals, I’ve just spent roughly four weeks with the newest fitness wearables out in the market: the Samsung Gear Fit2 and the Gear IconX. And in a nutshell, I’d say the tech giant knows how to play their Fitness card well, making goal-getting so much fun.
Let’s be clear here. The game has definitely changed long before these two items stepped in the scene with other brands taking the space in becoming the more popular ones. But as soon as these two bad boys came out, the first thing they did was give all the other brands a run for their money. Here’s why:
NO HOLDING BACK
The Samsung Gear Fit2 and Gear IconX both stand alone, even independently of each other. No more keeping your phone close or strapped to your arm as you workout, not even for music. The Gear Fit2 has a built-in 2GB of memory, which allows you to store music and play them through Bluetooth earphones (not necessarily the IconX).
The Gear IconX, on the other hand, is TOTALLY cordless—not even connecting one earbud to the other! An absolute game-changer, if you ask me. The wing tips come in different sizes, so each bud is sure to fit your ear like a glove. I’ve rehearsed my NT Sweat cardio tracks with it and none of ‘em fell off. Not even when I whipped my hair! Haha Now, that’s how fitness earphones should really be!
PUSHING FURTHER
The Gear Fit2 and IconX give you the option to set up a guide at every interval when you go out for a walk or run. Both monitor your distance, time, and heart rate.
But what sets the Gear Fit2 apart from any other fitness wearable is its advanced coaching features. It’s like having a pacer right next to you while you’re out for a run. No other wearable can automatically detect walking/jogging/running and use the data to tell you when to go faster or maintain a certain pace in order to maximize your workout or meet your step goal for the day.
You don’t have to worry about constantly looking at your wrist, though, because the Gear Fit2 lets you know when it’s time to change up the pace through gentle vibrations. Its bright, 2-inch AMOLED screen clearly displays these notifications so you can easily read them while you’re on the move. No stopping just to read what your tracker is telling you which was a problem I used to have back with my previous wearable.
I’m still curious how far I can go now that I have these two small, yet powerful fitness devices. This is why I’m posing a challenge for myself in the coming month. I’m switching up my routine to add more runs and track my progress. I haven’t focused on running in a long time and I’m looking forward to unleashing myself!
Check back soon to know about my progress and let me know if you’re in on the challenge too! Use the hashtags #GearFit2PH and #GearIconXPH and tag me @nkitorres if you’re posting about it on Instagram, so we can cheer each other on. Wish me luck! x
