If you’ve read my feature on Polarity Physiotherapy Center, you probably know that I’m on the lookout for hidden (health & fitness) gems all over the Metro. It’s a bug that bit foodies a few years back, sending them on a hunt for great places to dine in less commercial areas. It’s the same one that got fitness enthusiasts shaking their routines up and constantly trying what’s new…or is that just me?
Anyway, I was invited by the team behind Calibarzz for a sweat sesh a couple of months back and I so willingly obliged. Calibarzz is an outdoor Calisthenics facility located in Quezon City.
Pretty low-key, if you ask me, but the cool thing is that it’s one of those places you try to keep a secret and only tell your closest friends. However, news about this spot is now spreading like wildfire so don’t be the last to visit them.
Right here is a long overdue (yes, that’s how busy I got) feature on one of the coolest playgrounds for grown-ups in the Metro today. Of course, kids are welcome too but only if you don’t mind them beating your ass in some of the tricks.
Calibarzz is the first outdoor Calisthenics Park I got to visit in the Philippines. It was founded by a group of friends, all Street Calisthenics enthusiasts, in 2015.
The whole workout area is actually a garage, converted into an outdoor gym. Don’t worry, though, an indoor gym is currently in the works. The team says they’re preparing to accommodate clients for the rainy season.
So, what exactly is the kind of workout you get at Calibarzz? The team focuses on bodyweight strength training, also known as Calisthenics. Workouts are circuit-type and designed to prep you for movements and tricks on the bars.
Check out the video of their coaches freestyling below.
If you’re not into swinging around, jumping from one bar to another, you can also book a one-on-one boxing training session with them. There’s also a skate ramp if you’re into it.
You don’t have to be a pro or to be extremely fit to book a workout with them. All levels, with all sorts of fitness goals, are encouraged to sign up especially because the team has got to be the warmest, most welcoming group of coaches I’ve encountered. No fitness background at all? They got you.
Did I mention I totally dig the vibe at Calibarzz? Just look at the awesome graffiti on their walls.
Plus they play Hip-hop music ALL THE TIME. <3
Workouts are scheduled daily from Mondays-Saturdays, 7AM (before it gets too hot to even be outside) and 4PM (when it gets cool enough) onwards only. Be sure to book ahead (whether for an individual, partner or group workout) through calibarzz.worldwide@gmail.com or 09175100410.
Calibarzz is located at Madasalin Street, Sikatuna Arts District, Quezon City, Philippines. It’s the black gate with a huge #6 graffiti upfront. You can’t miss it! 😉
