Years ago, I’ve listed down a number of plant-based food delivery service available in Metro Manila here on the blog. I’m not going to dig up that article and share the link because most of the providers in that post have already gone out of business. Were they bad? Not at all. They were just early.
Now, vegetarian and vegan food is on the rise and more consumers are looking to make the shift to a plant-based lifestyle. The problem, as usual, is that we have no time to make food for ourselves. I’ve watched as over the past three years, food delivery brands both new and existing attempt to capture the growing niche market. I’ve been sent A LOT of meals but so far, only two have met my expectations. One is V Kitchen Manila which you’ve probably seen on my Instagram feed a couple of times, and now The Sexy Chef‘s plant-fueled bowls.
While V Kitchen Manila offers full weekly, vegan meal plans (that are fancy af), The Sexy Chef offers a selection of five delicious bowls so you can choose to order per meal. They’re the kind that I prefer to eat on any given day. Here’s their current selection:
INDIAN BOWL (GLUTEN-FREE): Gluten-free Kofta Balls, Lentil Curry, Green Beans Thoran with Tomato Cashew Cream Gravy. Served with either brown rice or Cauli rice.
MEDITERRANEAN BOWL (GLUTEN-FREE): Gluten-free Falafel Patties, Grilled Eggplant, Tomatoes, Olives with Garlic Sauce. Served with either brown rice or Cauli rice.
EAST ASIAN BOWL (GLUTEN-FREE): Orange-flavored Tofu, Sesame Kangkong and Edamame. Served with either brown rice or Cauli rice.
PINOY BOWL (GLUTEN-FREE OPTION AVAILABLE): Plant-based barbecue, Monggo Kare-kare, Laing with Vegan Bagoong. Served with either brown rice or Cauli rice.
TEX-MEX BOWL: Black bean patties, corn, tomatoes and Salsa Verde. Served with brown rice or Cauli rice.
My personal fave? The Pinoy Bowl. I absolutely loved the combination of flavors and the black bean bagoong that came with it. My partner, Nat, loved the East Asian Bowl the most.
Okay, but why just these two meal delivery services so far? Like I said, I’ve tried plenty and many have failed (because I studied plant-based nutrition, I have higher standards than most) and one actually failed MISERABLY sending me meals with chicken, beef and salmon the first day, Chicken the second day, and egg pasta the third. Others were indeed plant-based but were so high in sugar and lacked the nutritional value IMO (they most likely meet the 1200-1500 cal per day though) and one just left me well…hungry. So far, V Kitchen Manila and The Sexy Chef (though on the pricey side), have met my expectations. If you ask me, they’re worth it in the long run if you’re not one to make your food at home.
Any vegan food delivery services you recommend? Hit me up so I can give them a try!
