We’ve just gone past our second week and so far Shirley hasn’t shown any signs of giving up. Good. While it’s still very early to tell, I’m glad she’s been showing real progress.
She’s been sticking to her workout schedule, pre-planning and packing her meals and, hasn’t been craving for sweets (her biggest enemy. So far it hasn’t been a chore for me to keep her going during workouts since we began. I think the reason why she was easily motivated was because we often trained with other friends. She was almost never alone when we workout.
Here’s a quick recap of what we’ve been up to the past week.
THE WORKOUT PLAN
We’ve been training 3x a week for the past couple of weeks. I am psyched that we haven’t had any trouble sticking to the schedule. If we had to postpone one day, it wasn’t hard for us to reschedule and invite friends to come another day. The rest of the week, when we are not training, Shirley attends Zumba classes for cardio and yoga classes to build strength and increase mobility. For now she’s allowed two days of rest, one full day for recovery and another one wherein she is allowed to attend a gentle yoga class such as Yin yoga.
Shirley’s workouts consist mainly of cardio to help her get leaner and move quicker. I also include strengthening workouts and light weights to tone the muscles in the process.
ARE YOU GAME?
It also works to substitute workouts with fun activities. Last weekend, Shirley came with me to “Are You Game?” by Women’s Health Philippines. It was a full-day fitness event wherein participants mainly got to try out the latest workouts.
We were there with Nic and Lyan and the three of them jumped right in the Gauntlet Class hosted by Ninja Academy, a group that specializes in parkour. We then joined the Zumba Hiphop class led by Regine Tolentino and man, did we break a sweat.
The following day, we were back at Beyond for yoga and personal training where she sweat even more and complained a lot less! Haha
Today, marks the 15th day. We are 15 days away from our first weigh-in and I can’t wait to see the results. Check back next week for another update!
