After months of anticipation, The Vegetarian Kitchen has re-opened on August 18, looking much brighter and ready to accommodate more guests.
The restaurant has grown from a humble home business to a popular dining spot, catering not only to the taste of vegetarians and vegans, but also to the regular meat eaters. The restaurant boasts of well-crafted, tasty, plant-based dishes that come in huge plates and bowls. I would say it’s big enough to share, but the food is too good you’ll probably end up ordering one dish for each person anyway.
So, what’s new? The place is now more spacious. Both the facade and interior have changed. Now with a bigger signage, bolder colors and huge windows up front, it’s has become more visible (it used to be so easy to miss especially when you go in the evening) to those who are not familiar with its location. Beautiful images of Baby Krishna hang on the walls along with other quirky pieces, giving it a youthful vibe that’s still unique to The Vegetarian Kitchen.
The chalkboard menu has gone and I kinda miss that. I used to stand in front of it for ages, always finding it hard to decide what to eat! The small rack with books and magazines has gone too. Probably not a huge deal for some, but I loved how it served as a simple means to educate people on the spiritual aspect of being a vegetarian/vegan. Although, they probably still sell copies of the Bhagavad Gita if you ask them.
UPDATE: The rack of books has turned into a nice shelf mounted on one of the walls of the cafe. Awesome.
The menu hasn’t changed much (which, I think, is a good thing) but they’ve added a few new things to try. I had the Grilled Salmon with Coriander and Pesto and it was AMAZING. Nic still ordered their Bibimbap because we have been craving for it for the longest time. Definitely something you have to try.
A few snaps from our visit during their re-opening below.
The Vegetarian Kitchen is located at 62B Mother Ignacia Ave., Quezon City. Right across Saint Mary’s College.
