I’ve always been the DIY kid. Moisturizers, hair masks, I would make them in the kitchen when I was younger (and had plenty of time). Apart from finding it therapeutic, it gave me peace of mind to know exactly what was going into the gunk I would make. It also meant not scrimping on the good stuff. I have the same view on personal care products as food.
And speaking of food, I was surprised to learn how easy it is to make toothpaste with items you would normally find in your kitchen. When personal care products are so clean (as in free from harmful chemicals) you can almost eat them, you know for sure it does your body nothing but good.
Here’s how to make your own vegan, natural toothpaste.
You’ll need:
2 Tbsp. Baking Soda
2 Tbsp. Fine Sea Salt
1-2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
2 Small Packets of Stevia Powder
8-12 Drops of your fave essential oil (optional)
Put it together:
- Measure and mix your ingredients in a small bowl, jar or container (ideally made of glass)
- Stir until you form a thick paste
- Scoop some onto your toothbrush and brush as usual
I did say earlier that I liked going through all this when I had plenty of time to do so. If you want to skip the DIY part but still get the benefits of toothpaste that’s free from anything harmful, I’ve found Himalaya Botanique to be extremely convenient and fitting for my personal needs mainly for two reasons:
– It’s made with 100% USDA organic certified ingredients.
– 97% of the ingredients are from natural source
Other regular toothpaste brands often have one or more of the following harmful ingredients:
- Sorbitol
- Paraben
- Gluten
- Saccharin
- SLS
- Triclosan
- Carrageenan
- Fluoride
- Sodium Hydroxide
But what makes these harmful ingredients bad, you ask? Learn all about it on my next blog post. It’s time to check your labels!
