I picked up a few key pieces from the first capsule collection and here’s what I think.
The whole world has been talking about the much awaited launch of the first collaboration between Beyonce and adidas. After dropping hints on her Insta and formally announcing in April last year, fans of both the superstar and global brand, adidas, have been crossing out days on their calendars. Before 2019 ended, its gorgeous campaign launched with gender-neutral pieces that would obviously look great on anybody and any body.
The collection officially launched in the Philippines last Saturday, Jan 18 and I was lucky to get first dibs on a few pieces I’ve been eyeing since the teasers came out. I dropped by the nearest store that carried the Ivy Park collection and picked up the LAST pair of the Ivy Park x adidas Super Sleeks that came in my size. I also got the convertible track jacket, the strappy bra, mesh cycling shorts without any hesitation. I was there at 11:30 AM (stores open at 11) on my way to a workshop I was conducting and all of the accessories (harness bags, backless caps) have already SOLD OUT. There was a five-item limit for every person purchasing from Ivy Park and people were lined up outside. Whew.
The shrug you’ll see in the photos below wasn’t available in ANY of the physical stores so I had to get it online. So when I found out, I immediately got on the adidas website to get it. Nearly everything else has also already sold out on there.
I wasn’t surprised, though. Apart from the fact that two iconic brands come together to collaborate, the price point of every item from the line was surprisingly affordable considering it had Beyonce’s brand on it. I’ve seen tons of Stella McCartney shoes and apparel go for twice or thrice the price.
So was it all worth running around shopping and basically handing all that money without blinking an eye? Here are my thoughts:
I initially wanted the Solar Orange Halter Bra because I found the Strappy Bra too ordinary in photos. But once I got to the store, I fell in love with the details Ivy Park is well known for on the Strappy Bra. That and the shade of orange the halter bra came in was way too bright for me. Of course, I had to get the maroon mesh cycling shorts to match. I opted for that over the 7/8 leggings just because I already have too many pairs of full length tights.
I’m absolutely in love with the shorts and the mesh detail that runs throughout the sides of the hips. I mean I’ve had tights that had a similar design but the material would always be thicker that you wouldn’t notice it. This is sheer af, my tattoo is even showing through it. Beyonce, you did good, honey.
How did these two fair in terms of performance, though? GREAT. The quality of both were the same as most of the adidas’ best sport/running/training apparel. They’re not JUST for athleisure. Both had great support and stretched pretty well. Price: (Bra) P2,300 (Shorts) P2,100
The maroon shrug looked amazing in all the photos. The actual item also does but, I felt like it could have done more than just that. The entire thing is made of mesh except for the neckline, the cuffs and the three stripes sewn onto the sleeves. If I were to go out for lunch with friends after a workout, I couldn’t put this on unless it’s really hot out (which I don’t think it’s ideal for either because the mesh would then be completely uncomfortable and hot). It’s really cute, though. Price: P2,100
The Convertible Jacket has got to be my best purchase. It’s also a bit on the pricier side at P8,500. In my defense, I thought the purchase through. The piece is incredibly versatile and has so much character. You can leave the sleeves half off for a cut-out look, or completely off for a short-sleeved jacket. the bottom half also zips off so you can change it up any way you want. Plus, it’s outerwear, pieces like this can last you eons.
My girlfriend, Nat, also got the Ecru White Snap Track Jacket (no photo tho) which is another great purchase because you can wear it a number of ways. Thank God, I’m able to borrow her clothes :p Snap Track Jacket price: P6,500
Now on to the shoes. I was able to snag the last pair of the Ivy Park Super Sleek P5,000. Bad news was, I planned to get it for both my best friend and myself. Of course, that went to her because I’ve basically already hoarded the rest of the items. The pair was absolutely cute but clearly not for training. Are they comfy? I got to try them on and walk around in my living room before I gave them to my best friend, so don’t ask me. :p
So, is the adidas x IVY PARK collab worth all the hype? YES. They’re still available online and in-stores but I wouldn’t wait. Products are insanely limited and you might just miss the last piece in your size.
