The wait is finally over–for me, at least. Green Bar, a vegan cafe based in Alabang, has set up a kitchen in Makati allowing them to deliver to those who do not frequent the south. While they cannot bring the cafe over to us here for the full dining experience, it’s good enough that they have expanded their services and made their food more accessible especially because I think this is something everyone (non-vegans included) would enjoy.
They stuffed me silly one day and had me try nearly all the items on their menu. While I got to taste everything (yes, I did!), I made sure friends and family got to try too because I didn’t want to miss out on another opportunity to prove that vegan food could be THIS good.
So what was in my package? Here’s a blow-by-blow of each item.
Note: Do not continue reading if you are hungry. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
What it is: BBQ glazed pulled-tofu and creamy, cool, crunchy slaw with a kick, served on a whole wheat roll.
Compared to everything else in the bag, this looked like the junior of the bunch. I actually had this for brunch the day after I got the package and just warmed it. Still tasted damn good and surprisingly filling too.
What it is: Scrambled tofu, roasted potatoes, slightly sweet seitan sausage, baby spinach and a creamy vegan hollandaise sauce.
One of my favorites (notice I said “one of”). Good to eat anytime, not just for breakfast.
What it is: Green Bar’s signature NYC handheld loaded with crisp yet tender roast beef style seitan, caramelized onions, cashew cream and vegan mayo on 6″ focaccia.
Don’t worry, you are not about to commit a sin. This sandwich, although rich and indulgent is, guilt-free. Seitan or “wheat-meat” is a meat alternative derived from the protein part of wheat. It’s a fantastic alternative to meat because of its texture. Ranks right next to the Breakfast Burrito on my list of favorites.
What it is: A customizable bowl of greens, grains and your choice of toppings. Go basic or go crazy depending on your mood.
I saved this for last because it is right at the top of my list of favourites. Well, there’s really nothing from this loot that I didn’t like. Don’t look at me that way, it’s just that their food is seriously good.
Anyway, the portions are huge and reminded me of the Planet Platter from Down to Earth, Bali which I really, really loved. I could eat this all day, everyday.
Other items in their menu include Cold Brew Coffee (starts at P150) and Havana, the fluffiest vanilla cupcakes I’ve ever had (P100 each).
There are a few more items on their list that aren’t shown here and won’t fit my stomach. So I’m gonna have them some other time and update this or post on Instagram (@nkitorres).
